A young songstress at 7 or 8 yrs old who was an entertainer
throughout grade school levels. Leading step teams, plays and talent
shows, Alexia Ayaana formed her first girl group with one of her
friends. High school she started taking singing lessons and at 18 she
started taking her career as an entertainer more seriously alongside
her sister, now her manager.
Her sister was the branding and marketing executive for GME (grown
money entertainment). Inside one of their establishments was a studio
and as a favor to her sister, Wes (label owner), allowed her to use the
space as her personal musical playground. Shortly after she released
her first single, “Balenciaga” with Kwony cash in spring 2014.
The
single went to heights that she never images being one of the few
female artists in the city with a strong presence. Everywhere you go
you can’t not see an Alexis Ayaana poster or CD. She was even surprised
by the reaction she was getting from inside the clubs and party scene
of Atlanta.
“I was doing a lot of showcases around Atlanta and then seeing everyone making dances and videos to my song. Its like wow! The reaction that I was getting from the guys about a song that would have been originally dominated by a male was just a dope experience. I enjoyed watching the others have a great time to my song.”
Recently she reached a milestone. During the BET Hip Hop Awards weekend she rocked the stage as a Hip Hop Weekly Soundstage & Interview Lounge Feature Performer! Ayaana discussed her first performance experience with a set, choreography and backup dancers. Doing all of that and more while being sick herself, she saw the real strife that it takes to make the dream come true.
“I was sick two days before, and it showed me that I have to keep pushing through it. I had a session the same day that I did that (hip hop weekly performance). I didn’t eat either, it (the illness) was causing me to barely keep anything down. Yet I still persevered through it all.”
Ayaana
is excited about the growth of herself as an artist and has so much to
show fans on her upcoming project. At the Hip Hop Weekly Soundstage she
performed her next major single “All My Love” featured from her upcoming EP. The
song has a Caribbean feel influenced by her original heritage of her
parent descent. It will be exclusively produced by Drumma Boy, expected
released at the end of November.
“I’m really proud of it. Everything is a process. Im
still trying to find parts of my sound. I’m more of a prissy girl, the
kind of song that I did (single, Balenziaga) was urban and Atlanta bred. So I’m excited for everyone to see more of me.”
